Aaron E. Klemm: Accelerating the Network Effect with OpenID and Microformats

  • With OpenID and Microformats quickly gaining acceptance and visibility, it’s time to find out why and how to implement them for your users. This talk will cover the basics of implementing OpenID on your site. Then we’ll dive into OpenID+Microformat tricks that you can implement in minutes.
  • Aaron Klemm is co-founder of Unripped, an OpenID-enabled file sharing and storage site. Aaron is a Systems Administrator and works on data portability experiments at Unripped.
  • Other resources:
    • Here is a link to Operator, the Firefox extension I mentioned: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4106
    • If you install that and then view http://aaron.binprop.org or an event at Upcoming or a business listing on Google maps etc., the extension will alert you that microformats are available in those pages. Then you can export events to a calendar or contacts to vcard and more.
    • Also check out the right side of the page on http://getsatisfaction.com/people/new ←- you can use existing information about yourself from flickr/technorati/upcoming/last.fm/twitter/cork’d or your own url. Hint: click on ‘other’ and put http://aaron.binprop.org in to see how the service pulls in profile data that I marked up with microformats.
